Music tailored to the moment and the listener can soothe nerves, encourage fuller breathing, induce the relaxation response and provide a kind presence to those in hospitals, nursing homes, hospice or other health facilities. David is a Certified Music Practitioner trained by the Music for Healing and Transition Program (MHTP) to provide music tailored to various needs in healthcare situations, from situations such as Intensive care units to clients experiencing pain or anxiety. MHTP is one of the few programs accredited by the National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians. Music Practitioners create a healing environment by playing music in healthcare environments. Music Practitioners are not Board Certified Music Therapists and do not perform the functions of a Music Therapist. David has provided music at the bedside in healthcare since 1999 and was certified in 2003 as a Music Practitioner. He has certifications in massage therapy as well as a B.A. in Vocal Music.
During the Pandemic, he is offering musical performances outside of facilities, which residents can hear through windows or in courtyards. Virtual music, via Facebook Messenger or Facetime, is also possible, and can provide a window to the outside world to individuals in care facilities. In person, indoor therapeutic music may also be possible. During the pandemic, he specializes in offering Harp music, though his main instrument had been flute or voice most of his adult life.
