"Mother Earth Blues," just completed in February 2015, see recent blog post about this mini-musical. Written for a small church, and performed recently in Littleton CO and Swampscott MA, this story is set in a rainforest in Nicaragua and addresses environmental stewardship.
"Dancing in the Dark: finding the light"
A rock-pop musical setting that tells the story of a group of diverse characters, all different from one another, who find themselves on an alien world not knowing how they had come to be there. They learn to form a community after struggling with each others differences, finding forgiveness and love. The entire script is sung!
"Coral Carbon Blues" (small cast of 10 or so Version for small church available)
Cast of 21 (or SMALL cast version of 11) speaking/singing roles for human divers and sea creatures, Plus chorus and a school of younger fish (Played by younger kids). Small group of Strings or just piano. Add Bass, xylophone if desired. Set: underwater coral reef. The story of inhabitants of a coral reef and their diver visitors grappling with the realities of global warming and its effect on life under the sea. Solo singing parts throughout, with a two main leads that sing solos.
"Walking in Your Moccasins"
Cast of 13 speaking/singing roles, Plus choruses of dragons, birds and townspeople.
String quartet and flute, Plus piano. Set: a main stage divided down the middle by a wall (of blocks), another area stage right for the abode of the dragons and the Wizard. Several main characters, with a central lead named Lily. Lily travels to the cave of the wizard Azrael, who lives beyond the land of dragons in the cave of Doom, in hopes of retrieving some wisdom and perhaps some magic to bring peace to her people. In the end, she discovers the power and magic is within her.
"Flaming Chalice" (small cast 7-8 Readers Theatre Version Available also)
Cast of 28 speaking (or cast of 7 Readers Theatre Version) and/or acting roles, plus a UU "Gospel" Choir, and Cherub choir of very young children. Historical figures such as Dorothea Dix, William Elergy Channing, Michael Servetus, and other make appearances. Piano instrumentation.
Set: an area for the Fitch family, another area for the Gospel Choir and a third area for various vignettes to unfold. The story of young Carmen Fitch and his search to understand the history of meaning of Unitarian Universalism. Along the way, he is helped by Darla, the self-proclaimed "UU History Angel Blogger" and her helpers, the "UU Gospel Choir and Actors Guild."
"Let My People Go"
The traditional story of Moses freeing the Hebrew slaves. Cast of 17 speaking/acting parts Plus a Chorus of Hebrew slaves, and another Chorus or Frogs, Locusts, Gnats and Flies (the plagues of Egypt) made of the youngest of children. Piano.
Below is a pic of myself, right, with partner Keith Arnold from our trip to India, where we taught and lived at a Children's School for one month in 2011 during a sabbatical. The children you see are from the Katkari Tribe and represent the first generation of women, for the most part, from their tribe to attend primary school. Educate of tribal women in India has historically been less than 1%.
